"Better To Love" (So Transparent)
"Better To Love" is the last song Tommy Rock and Kim Fowley wrote together as a team.   It's a song and it's a story.  I've chosen to give it it's own page.
Original lyric:  "Life is like a window, look through it and see the world..."

"Better To Love" (Fowley-Rock)

Nights filled with wonder.  Glasses filled with wine.
Yearning...turning...a wheel within a wheel.

Your sleeping with your beauty, while the Beast is being born,
The Sailors sail the stars again, and the Boys are growing old,
The Simple Men are sleeping, and the Girls are going home...

Love is One Big Question, don't avoid it if you feel,
Hoping and praying and trying to make it real.

Our lives are So Transparent, what a shame we always hide,
Those lovely things inside of us, but I'll hold you tight tonight,
Our love is inconsistent, but I'm loving you...I'm loving you...Tonight!

Solo.

Our lives are So Transparent, what a shame we always hide,
Those lovely things inside of us, but I'll hold you tight tonight,
Our love is inconsistent, but I'm loving you...I'm loving you...Tonight!

Somebody give me something, I've got to believe it's better to give than to receive,
Somebody show be something, I've got to believe, it's better to love than be deceived,

It's Better to Love,
I said it's Better to Love...yeah, yeah, yeah...

Originally title:  "So Transparent"   I jammed at the piano for a while, near the cool ocean at Seal Beach.  "Life is like a window, look through it and see the world."   Gary was out.  Kurt, my other roomate, was deliverying pizzas.  I was alone, and our rental on Coast Line Drive seemed colder and more empty than usual.  (Three guys, a piano, and a couple of mattresses).

Doubts and questions.  Kim had faith in me.  But did I have faith in me?   I had talent, but...

"Somebody give me something, I've got to believe it's better to give than to receive".

Could I make it Happen?

I shuddered as looked down at the shaky lines he had for me on yellow pad.  I was batting Zero.  He'd co-written, for instance, Portobello Road in the 60's with Cat Stevens.  And "Escape" with Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare"  release in 1975.  The world sang along.

And now, in 1979,  what was Kim, in his bizarre world, up to with this one?

"Somebody show me something, I've got to believe it's better to love than be decieved."

Has Kim gone Biblical?" I thought.  A wheel within a wheel.  Right out of the Book of Ezekiel?  Kim tossed away the constant Christian Mailers hoping to save his Soul.  And now This???  A Tender but perhaps twisted take on the sayings of Jesus.  At that time, he was very far from it.  Or, at least that's what he wanted you to think.

Oh, well.  The Beatles always got away with stuff like that.  So many Judiacal themes and melodies like "Yesterday" and "We Can Work It Out."   The Savior Complex.  The Luv You Make is Equal to the Luv you Take.  Let's finish it up, do a "Hey Jude" Meets "Abbey Road" ending on it, and try it with the band.    It's got bleeeed...

Mark Wirtz
Working with Mark Wirtz was a thrill.  Here's a guy who had private photos of himself and Paul and Linda on his Easy Table.  He really did work right beside George Martin,  masterminding all those fantastic Beatle arrangements. "Those were the Days my Friend we thought they'd never end....  "My Mom sang along with Mary Hopkin to the radio on top of the Fridge mornings before her secretarial job at Grumman Aerospace on Long Island..  Another Mark Job...

He had a slight German accent, and sometimes called me, "Mortimer".  And he didn't know why.

other plans
"Other plans..."  On a bender, I' d pulled apart the wall paneling... could hear the whisper, from those phantom markings drawn by hand, the hidden construction,  the turning away was near....
Dr. Filth he keeps his world...inside of a leather cup...   Desolation Row
